Soficu Group presents investment plan for tourism
The Real Casino of Madrid was the setting for the presentation of GRUPO SOFICU to prominent figures from the business, medical, health, diplomatic, and tourism industries. The group is launching its first real estate projects in the Dominican Republic.
With the same entrepreneurial and visionary spirit that led him to create his first formulas 50 years ago and to found SESDERMA®, Dr. Gabriel Serrano is now spearheading GRUPO SOFICU, a new international business platform with interests in various sectors.
The initial objective is to support the growth of health and eco-tourism in the Dominican Republic, focusing efforts on the communities of Bayahíbe and Cumayasa. The aim is to promote a new tourism model centered on health, environmental preservation, nature, and unique personal experiences. This green and sustainable revolution is committed to local communities and is set to radically transform the lives of thousands in the areas of Bayahíbe (La Altagracia province) and Cumayasa (La Romana province).
The proposal includes employing local residents directly, who will construct the planned hotel complexes. These local workers will use natural materials from the region—such as tree trunks, palm leaves, clay, plant-based textiles, and more. All materials will be traditional, authentic, and locally sourced, as used by these communities for hundreds of years: organic, nearby, and recyclable.
Visitors will enjoy luxurious services and breathtaking landscapes in a way that is fully integrated with and respectful of the environment. In addition to an exceptional location with crystal-clear beaches and pristine natural surroundings, the hospitality offerings will include top-tier health and beauty services provided by the prestigious Dr. Gabriel Serrano Clinic in Bayahíbe—similar to those he has already established in Valencia, Madrid, Dubai, and Bogotá. New clinics will soon be added in Punta Cana, Higüey, and Santiago. This health and beauty offering, backed by Dr. Serrano’s expertise and his team of professionals, will be a major draw for high-end tourists seeking unique experiences in natural settings—without sacrificing world-class medical care or advanced beauty treatments at a fraction of the cost compared to countries like Canada, the U.S., Italy, Spain, Germany, or China.
Dr. Gabriel Serrano’s relationship with the Dominican Republic spans nearly five decades and is deeply rooted in love and commitment to improving the quality of life for its people. This is evident in his collaboration with the Dr. Huberto Bogaert Dominican Institute of Dermatology, a pioneering institution in the fight against leprosy and other skin diseases throughout the Americas. Dr. Serrano feels a strong personal connection with the institute, having promoted knowledge exchange with its physicians, funded training scholarships in Spain, and donated advanced diagnostic and treatment equipment. Over the past year, he has also awarded research grants for skin disease studies and funded attendance at international dermatology congresses.
He has also launched the Dr. Gabriel Serrano Sanmiguel Foundation, a nonprofit organization aimed at improving the health and socioeconomic well-being of underprivileged Dominicans.
In addition, he has created the SESDERMA Academy of Arts and Trades, which will offer both theoretical and practical training courses to help local residents learn in-demand professions—from cooks and waiters to hotel receptionists, hairdressers, pedicurists, and health or pharmacy technicians—equipping them to handle medical emergencies or dispense medications responsibly.
About SOFICU GROUP
For Dr. Gabriel Serrano, the name Soficu holds personal significance—it is also the name of his youngest daughter. “Soficu” is derived from Sofía, meaning “wisdom” in Greek, and it is with wisdom and experience from decades in business that Dr. Serrano approaches this new venture. After successfully establishing 23 subsidiaries across four continents, opening hubs in Panama, Dubai, and Hong Kong, and launching a new logistics facility at SESDERMA’s headquarters in Puçol, Dr. Serrano is now undertaking a strategic shift: diversifying into other economic sectors such as tourism, while also opening new clinics and skin centers to complement existing locations in Valencia, Madrid, Dubai, Bogotá, Bayahíbe, and Santo Domingo.
